The School Day
In order to best meet the needs of the different ages of children who attend The First Steps we operate a staggered start and end to the school day.
A summary of the school hours is shown in the table below:

START OF THE SCHOOL DAY
A typical day at The First Steps begins with Primary aged children and FS3 children arriving between 7:30am and 8:15am. Children can be dropped off at the gates or brought into the school grounds by their parent/carer where they will be met by members of The First Steps staff who will be on duty from 7:30am.
At 7:45am the school bell will ring for Primary aged children and they will line up to be escorted to their classroom by their class teacher. The FS3 teachers are next to ring the bell and take the FS3 children up to class by 8:15, ready to learn.
Please do try to arrive on time. Not only does this help with traffic flow, but it also sets your child up for a successful day in school. In Primary lessons start promptly at 8am.
Children in Rising 2s, Nursery and FS2 can arrive from 8.15am and should be escorted to the garden area by their parents/carer where they will be greeted by the staff on duty. Children can play in the garden under the careful supervision of our duty staff until the bell rings at 8:45am.
We encourage all parents/carers to join their children and other parents in the garden upon arrival. This is an excellent opportunity for you to meet and chat with other parents.
BREAK AND LUNCH
Children benefit from 60 minutes of playtime during morning snack/play and for lunch/play. Out younger students have plenty of garden time and time on the bikes throughout the day.
END OF THE SCHOOL DAY
Parents/carers are encouraged to arrive promptly at the end of the school day and wait for their children in the garden alongside others.
The school day for children in Rising 2s, Nursery and K1 finishes at 1:30pm. For K2 and Primary, the school day finishes at 2:30pm.
All children from Nursery upwards may take part in a wide range of after-school activities (ECAs).
