English as an Additional Language (EAL)

EAL stands for English as an Additional Language. In primary school, EAL classes can be beneficial for those children who are learning English as an additional language

Many children come to our school speaking two, perhaps three languages. This can sometimes mean that they have difficulty accessing the full curriculum in English. This is where our EAL program can help. We have dedicated, specialist teachers to support children in their English language journey. Whether this be survival phrases or the use of grammar, we can tailor a program to suit your child

Some specific benefits of EAL classes in primary school may include:

Improved language skills: EAL classes can help children to develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English, which, in turn, can help to improve their overall language proficiency.

Enhanced academic performance: By supporting children’s language development, EAL classes can help children to perform better academically. This may be because they are better able to understand and engage with classroom material, or because they are more confident in using English to communicate their ideas.

Greater social and emotional support: EAL classes can provide a supportive and inclusive environment for children who are learning English as an additional language. This can be especially important for children who may be feeling isolated or marginalised due to language barriers.

Increased cultural understanding: EAL classes can also provide an opportunity for children to learn about and appreciate the diverse cultural backgrounds of their classmates. This can help to foster a sense of inclusivity and understanding within the classroom.

We may suggest your child joins EAL classes after their Taster day, or at any time during the year.
