BACKGROUND:
I grew up in the southwest of England and studied Primary Teaching and Education at St Mary’s University in Twickenham, graduating with a BA Hons in 2008. Since then, I’ve worked in various school settings around the world, including England, China, Vietnam, and Thailand. For the past six years, I’ve been based in Thailand, teaching in Pattaya and Bangkok. My passion for working with children and supporting their emotional and academic growth has been a constant throughout my career.
STRENGHTS:
I specialise in nurturing the emotional and social wellbeing of children, focusing on fostering a positive growth mindset. I firmly believe that when children are happy and healthy, their academic performance naturally improves. I enjoy teaching PSHE and believe this is a really important subject for children of all ages. I like to incorporate real world issues and brainstorm ways in which we can help others, contribute to society and help protect planet Earth.
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT TEACHING:
My favourite thing about teaching is working with young children because of their curiosity and enthusiasm. I especially love working in international schools as it allows us to embrace diversity and explore new cultures which I thoroughly enjoy teaching. This enriches our understanding of global perspectives and celebrates the beauty of our differences, creating a more inclusive and vibrant learning environment. My favorite thing about First Steps is the wonderful staff that I’m surrounded by every day. The school is filled with friendly, kind, open-minded, and approachable individuals. There is a strong emphasis on the happiness and wellbeing of children throughout the school, and I love that this focus extends to the teachers as well. It creates a supportive and nurturing environment that makes working here truly special.
MY APPROACH IN THE CLASSROOM:
My classroom ethos centers on creating engaging lessons within a calm and friendly environment where children enjoy their learning journey and are kind to others. I believe that children should feel safe to make mistakes, as it’s an essential part of learning and growth. By fostering this atmosphere, I aim to help each student develop confidence and a love for learning. In my classroom, children are always welcomed, included and encouraged to try their best.
LOOKING AHEAD:
My hopes are that children learn to embrace challenges, understanding that mistakes are opportunities for growth and that perseverance leads to success. I hope that they develop social skills, showing kindness and empathy toward their peers and develop a strong sense of self and growth mindset.
