BACKGROUND:
I grew up in the North of England, where I lived and studied until 2015. After that, I moved to Bangkok to further my teaching career. I hold a first-class degree in Early Years from Leeds University and completed my PGCE in Education in 2012. I initially applied my knowledge working at a local school in England before transitioning to international schools in Bangkok. Over the next seven years, I served as both a class teacher and phase leader.
In 2022, I moved to Hong Kong and worked as the Early Years Leader at Harrow International School. That same year, I became a mother, which inspired our return to Bangkok, where we could be close to good friends. Upon returning, I completed a Master’s Degree in Psychology and joined The First Steps, where I am currently teaching.
STRENGHTS:
One of my greatest strengths is my passion for Early Years education. I have dedicated extensive time to studying this field and, with several years of hands-on experience, I’m able to tailor learning to meet each child’s unique needs. My calm and nurturing approach helps me build positive, trusting relationships with the children in my care.
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT TEACHING:
I believe it’s a privilege to work with children during their early years, as this is when the foundations for their future are formed. I see it as one of the most important phases of life, and as Early Years educators, we have the joy of witnessing and guiding children as they discover themselves and the world around them.
What I love about The First Steps International School is the diversity of nationalities. This broadens our perspectives and often leads to opportunities for even the teachers to learn something new.
MY APPROACH IN THE CLASSROOM:
In my classroom, I strive to create an inviting and stimulating environment where children feel free to explore, fostering their autonomy and independence in learning. My gentle approach encourages children to engage with all areas of the environment, which naturally extends to different areas of learning. I meet each child at their individual level and build upon their progress. I believe in celebrating every achievement, whether it’s putting on shoes independently or writing their name for the first time!
LOOKING AHEAD:
As the Early Years Curriculum Coordinator, I look forward to working closely with class teachers and families to further develop the Early Years campus. My goal for the children this year is for them to feel safe, happy, and celebrated for their successes.
