BACKGROUND:
I was born and raised in Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland and I gained my Child Health Nursing degree in 2011. I spent over 7 years working within different hospital settings. Whilst volunteering in Vietnam as I Nurse, I also found my love of teaching and in 2018 my teaching journey began. I have worked with Nursery aged children in local Vietnamese preschools and international schools, as well as teaching children of all ages on online platforms. I started at FSB in January 2022.
STRENGHTS:
Over the years, working as both a pediatric nurse, and a teacher within Early Years settings, I have gained a strong understanding of the developmental stages of young children. I can identify their individual needs, adjust activities accordingly and I can support not only their academic needs, but their physical, emotional, cognitive and social growth.
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT TEACHING:
My favorite part of being a teacher is that the rewards are limitless, and I have the chance every day to be a positive influence on children’s lives. As an EYFS teacher, I’m usually one of the first experiences children have with school, and I love being able to make a difference. I can take a child who always struggles with not making good choices for example and help them see how to turn their energy into something positive.
MY APPROACH IN THE CLASSROOM:
My approach to learning is that children learn through play. It is widely recognised that play supports children’s development. I like to provide opportunities that allow the children to tap into their natural curiosity, explore their interests and develop their social skills. I believe that as their teacher joining them in their ‘play’ is very important. I love being able to respond to their in the moment questions, be present for opportunities where I can introduce vocabulary in context and add a narrative to develop their learning.
LOOKING AHEAD:
This year I hope to create a stimulating learning environment where children feel safe and secure, and ultimately a place filled with happiness where they want to come to each day. I hope to inspire a love of learning, and I aim to help them build self confidence as they explore new activities and make descsions in a nurturing and supportive space. My hopes for myself are to further develop my teaching practise through CPD opportunities, and I aim yo stay updated on new strategies and best practice within the EYFS framework.
