BACKGROUND:
I am from Leeds in the North of England. This part of the country is beautiful, with lots of lush, green countryside which I spent the majority of my childhood exploring. My teaching career began in 2018 when I moved to Spain. It was here that I gained my passion for education, working within an Early Years setting at an International school in Malaga. After two years of soaking up the Spanish sun, me and my partner decided we wanted to move to Asia to explore more of this part of the world. Since then, I have taught in both Early Years and Primary, travelled to a lot of beautiful countries and also gave birth to my beautiful daughter Lottie!
STRENGHTS:
My experience working with children from all around the world allows me to understand the importance of connecting with individual students, building authentic, trustworthy relationships that encourage each child to thrive in and out of the classroom. I pride myself on continually developing and adapting my teaching style to accommodate students’ needs, promote independent learning and develop a lifelong love of learning.
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT TEACHING:
I absolutely adore teaching and feel very lucky to have forged a career in something I love. There is nothing more special than observing student’s confidence, skillset and natural curiosity about the world develop throughout an academic year. At FSB, we pride ourselves on the close knit, yet incredibly international community where each student is known and valued, allowing for us to build personable connections with the children and their families.
MY APPROACH IN THE CLASSROOM:
In order for a child to reach their full potential, they must first of all feel excited about coming to school. In my class, I believe in creating a ‘home away from home’ classroom environment, in which students feel cared for, safe and happy – we celebrate mistakes, promote collaborative learning and respect each other’s ideas and opinions.
LOOKING AHEAD:
This year, I am excited to teach my Year 1 class to read and write. Once students grasp this skill, it opens up a whole new world to them, and it is a joy to see their confidence grow as they begin to express their ideas and explore stories independently. In addition to this, I am looking forward to all the wonderful events we will take part in, such as the Christmas show, International week, Songkran and our trips to Sea Life and Rama 9 park!
