Primary Sport & Music
Sport
Specialist teaching of sport begins from Rising 2s and is open to all students as part of our broad and balanced curriculum.
Physical Education and Swimming lessons are taught by LETS ASIA, Bangkok’s leading swim school. Now over 15 years old LETS ASIA has grown to be the largest international swim school in Bangkok, ensuring our students benefit from first class lessons.
Swimming lessons are held in our covered and heated saltwater swimming pool, enabling our children to swim throughout the year. Using a fantastic range of equipment, including float aids, children learn to develop their water confidence in a secure and safe environment. For our youngest children, lessons begin in a large paddling pool, before moving to the shallow end of the pool. At all times, we maintain a high adult:child ratio which includes the children’s class teachers.
PE lessons take place in either our large, air conditioned gym, or our outdoor space and cover the following core areas:
- Dance and Gymnastics
- Movement and Handling
- Games
Lessons are designed to improve children’s gross motor skills. That is, large body movements, coordination and core strength. In addition to specialist lessons, Physical Development is one of the Prime Areas of the curriculum on Early Years meaning that it is practised every day. This may be in class, or outside in the garden or in the gym. All teachers are trained to develop this key area.
Music
Music forms a major part of school life, with all children receiving two specialist music lessons each week. Children are encouraged to develop their vocal skills, and musical elements including tempo, pitch and dynamics are incorporated into lessons. A wide variety of percussion instruments are introduced to children which they have the opportunity to explore before moving onto individual instruments in the Primary School.
Our specialist Music teacher also provides a range of ECAs to further develop the children’s musical skills. As with PE, all of our Early Years teachers understand the benefits that music brings to the classroom and there is much research on the positive effects it can have on young children’s learning. It encourages movement, creativity and language development and brings joy!
Sports
All students have access to specialist teaching of sport as part of our broad and balanced curriculum.

Physical Education (P.E.) is taught by our specialist PE teachers twice a week. Through participation in sport our students challenge themselves, develop leadership skills and learn to work as part of a team. Teamwork in sports requires cooperation and compromise and encourages the development of empathy. Competing in a safe and secure environment can help children learn that failure is not to be feared and can help to build resilience.
With an emphasis on regular exercise, enjoyment and promoting a healthy lifestyle it is our intention for students to discover their talents, develop skills which support lifelong learning and develop a lifelong love of sport. Above all we ensure that all children have fun and create memories with their peers.
The curriculum covers team games, dance, gymnastics, athletics and racket sports and lessons take place in either our large, air conditioned gym, or outside in the garden. Students also have access to a wide variety of extra-curricular activities (ECA) after school.
Music
Music forms a major part in school life at FSB with all students receiving music lessons twice each week from our specialist music teacher. Lessons take place in our dedicated music and practice rooms and students are encouraged to perform should they wish to during concerts, special events and assemblies.
Children are encouraged to develop their vocal skills, and musical elements including tempo, pitch and dynamics are incorporated into lessons. We offer a range of practical and theoretical music lessons covering percussion, woodwind and string instruments, in addition to keyboard skills and vocals. Students from Year 3 learn to play the ukulele and are encouraged to practise at home.
There has been much research on the benefits of music in primary education. It has been shown to aid cognitive development, increase self confidence and self discipline and aid memory and creativity. There are numerous studies that show the positive impact music can have on the brain, especially the parts concerned with language. Our goal at school is to ensure that music is seen as a key part of the curriculum and to offer something that all children can take part in and enjoy.
